Operation Concentric – Tax Fraud Defence

  • Ó Muirigh Solicitors represented a client in one of the largest tax fraud cases in the North of Ireland, brought by HMRC and the PSNI.
  • The investigation, Operation Concentric, concerned an alleged £15m VAT and income tax fraud linked to the construction industry.

Court of Appeal - Six Former Internees – Convictions Overturned

  • Francis McCann, Patrick Holden, Anthony Hughes, James Joseph Walsh, Patrick Fitzsimmons, and Francis Johnston were convicted in 1975 of escaping from HMP Maze.
  • Their detentions were based on Interim Custody Orders (ICO), later found to be legally flawed following the R v Adams ruling.
  • The Court of Appeal quashed their convictions, bringing renewed scrutiny to internment without trial.
  • During the escape attempt, Hugh Gerard Coney was shot dead by a British soldier.
